You will hardly find any web hosting company in India that will allow you to register a domain name with .gov.in extension. According to the new Internet Domain Name Policy of the Government of India, Domain Name Registration for any GOV.IN country-level domains will be done exclusively by the authorized registrar for the same, i.e National Informatics Center (NIC).GOV.IN will be reserved for registering domain names for all the Government Departments/Institutions/ Organizations at various levels right from the Central Government, the States & Union Territories, to the Districts, Blocks, and Panchayats.
Allotment of gov.in is restricted to the Institutions of Indian Government at various levels right from Central, State/UT, District & Sub-District.
Authorization Letter should be signed by the Head of the Institution/ Unit in the case of Central Government. While at the State level the request should be from the Head of the organization. For registration at District & Sub-District levels, the request should come from the District Collector.
Hence .gov.in domain names cannot be registered by normal people or organizations which are not government personnel or authority.
