How Can I Move Files From One Directory to Another Directory Using cPanel?

For a webmaster it is one of the regular tasks to shift files and folders from one directory to another. If you are a webmaster using cPanel Hosting which comes with cheap web hosting plans, then it’s an easy task to move files and folder from one directory to another. You just need to follow the following instructions.

  • Log in in to your cPanel account, here your can find ‘File Manager’ Icon under Files category.
  • Click on it and You will come to one message window providing you the following options
  1. Home Directory
  2. Web Root (public_html/www)
  3. Public FTP Root (public_ftp)
  4. Document Root for (For Exchanging Data among sub-domains created on a main domain)
  • You need to select the appropriate option to find the destination of file or folder you need to move from and click ‘Go button. (’Home Directory’ contains all the sub-directories so you need to follow longer path if your went through it)
  • After reaching to your destination file or folder you can find all editing options at the top of the window including ‘New File’ ‘New Folder’, ‘Copy’, ‘Move File’, ‘Upload’, ‘‘Download’, ‘Delete’ etc.
  • As you want to move the File, you first select it and click on ‘Move File’ now it will ask you the destination folder where you want to move the file, just provide it and click on ‘Move File(s)’ button.

That’s it you can check for the file you have moved in the respective folder.

How Install phpBB From cPanel.

Following are the steps to install phpBB through cPanel using softaculous.

  • Login to your cPanel web hosting account by using your username and password.

  • Click on the ‘Softaculous icon, which will carry you to newer screen where you will see ‘phpBB’ listed under the forums to the left side.

  • Click on the phpBB and you will see the overview page of particular phpBB Version.

  • Find the ‘Install’ tab and fill all the required details in the form such as Protocol, Domain, Directory in which phpBB is to be installed, Database name etc.

  • Now find the ‘Install’ button at the bottom and click on it, your installation will get started and you will receive the message “Congratulations, the software was installed successfully.” after successful completion of it.

Now you can login into your phpBB control panel through the url provided at confirmation page and arrange the setting as required.

Internal Server Error 500 And Solutions For It.

Occurrence of ‘Internal server error 500 is an indication of server’s temporarily inability to handle the request by user. First step to resolve this type of problem is to be started from trying to find the cause of this. And this is possible by performing a checkout of error logs. Usually this is done by entering in to cPanel >> Error log.

Watch out for the latest error logs appeared on server’s error logs list. Following are common errors can be seen in error logs

“error: directory is writable by others:

For resolving this error you will have to change the permissions of directories to 755 using file manager which can be found within cPanel.

“error: file has no execute permission:

This error can be solved by changing the permissions of the file in question to 755 by using your FTP client or the FileManager within the cPanel of website.

“[client 111.1.1.10] (13)Permission denied: /home/user/public_html unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable

This error occurs due to faulty permissions of .htaccess file. This can be solved by setting permissions of .htaccess and folder to 755.

“[client 111.1.1.10] Premature end of script headers: /home/user/public_html

There are many factors which causes for the occurrence of this error such as script’s requirements for more time for processing and being stopped by system. Setting an time interval for timeout up to 10-15 seconds is a good solution for this.

Another possibility is existence of a bug in code of the script so for solving this problem you need to be a expert web programmer.

We saw the above errors and the solutions to resolve them. Mostly setting Folder permission to 755 and File permission to 644 can resolve the above errors. In very few cases you need to change Public_html to 750. Following is the procedure of making your Directories as password protected.

Enter to your cPanel and perform a search for your own domain name.

To view your order details click on you domain name.

Click on Manage Web Hosting Services on the lower toolbar.

Here you will get entry to Website Management area

Follow this Manage Website >> Directory Protection >> Add Directory Protection

Use Browse button for the selection of the directory which you want to protect.

Give a Username and Password for the selected Directory and click on submit button.

Analog:

How to use different version of PHP for different Directories?

As PHP provided a great utility of using different versions of PHP for different Directories residing on the same hosting account. Many people don’t know how to change to their current PHP versions with another version of PHP. Currently there are severn different versions of PHP available starting from PHP 4.4 to PHP 6.0.

Following are the steps I have mentioned to change the current PHP versions installed with your directory.

  • Access your cPanel by logging in to your account.
  • Enter to Advanced Section
  • Here you will find PHP Version Change option
  • Select the Directory of which you want to change PHP version (Changes will take place for the subdirectories also)
  • Select the PHP version you want
  • Click on Save
