Thumbs up PTR record

PTR records resolve IP addresses into hostnames . A PTR record is the reverse of an A record. The PTR record should point to hostnamename that can be resolved back to the IP address.

PTR record maps an IP address to a domainname. Suppose A record of your domain.com is 192.168.0.1 then PTR record resolves as

1.0.168.192.in-addr.arpa PTR IN domain.com.

The naming rule of PTR records almost always organized into separate zones which is called as reverse zones. consider the example, a typical reverse zone for a class C subnet would be named "0.168.192.in-addr.arpa.", The numbers stand for the octets of the subnet address 192.168.0.1/24.

Usage:

A PTR record is normally design for convenience and completeness. It is required by some security purpose.
