Cool Folder option missing in Windows !

There are several reasons when you notice your important files being hidden all of a sudden or if you have hidden few of your files & now want to unhide them. What you'd normally want to do is to go to the View tab in the Folder Options from the Tools menu & check the radio button next to "Show hidden files and folders". But in case your machine is infected by a virus/worm, the Folder Options is gone missing What to do in such a situation ?
  • Follow these steps to get the Folder Options back..
  • Go to Start > Run > gpedit.msc
  • User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Explorer
  • Enable & then Disable the “Removes Folder Options menu from Tools menu” option.
  • Now close all the windows open in the Windows Explorer & then open them again.. your folder options are back now

Further more to the earlier, if you don't have the access to gpedit.msc & would want to get the Folder Options enabled in a different way, follow these steps:

Copy the the below given folder.txt text file, rename it into .REG file such as folder.reg & double click on it..

You'd be asked to confirm whether the information is ok to be entered into the system registry, click on yes.. now check to find the Folder Options back
Attached Files
File Type: txt folder.txt (10.1 KB, 2 views)

Viraj, Thanks for the wonderful piece of information. Do you recommend to take a backup of the registry and also create a system restore point before executing the above mentioned steps to be on a safe side?

Yep, I do recommend backing up the system registry so whatever changes we're going to do with it can be reverted back just in case something goes wrong

Thank you for your input, Richie
